At Sterke we hold joint development meetings for our apprentices and various themes are on the agenda. One wish from apprentices and management is, among other things, to visit Sterke’s good customers – and Aalborg Portland is one of them to a large extent.

The company’s Director Michael Lundgaard Thomsen, two apprentices Lukas Dalberg and Casper Jensen, supervisor Kasper Krogh Kjær and union representative Ernst Jensen welcomed and had put together a really great program with thorough information about the company’s development during its 136-year lifespan. It was interesting to hear about the production of Futurecem, the system for day-to-day logistics, its own port, and also to learn more about the difference between CO2 footprint and emissions. Emissions have also been reduced by 36% since 2021 and the goal for emissions is to go from the current 2.3 million tons of CO2 to zero in 2030 via CO2 capture, new products and green fuels.

We also heard about how Aalborg Portland works with apprentice and career development and there are an incredible number of development opportunities and paths in the company. Among other things, Casper Jensen told about going from unskilled to now becoming a skilled industrial technician and Kasper Krogh Kjær about going from apprentice to now having a management job as a supervisor. It is clear that Aalborg Portland is investing heavily in education and well-being.

After the orientation and question and answer session, we went on a bus tour and got a glimpse of this very exciting and unique company.

Thanks to Aalborg Portland and also thanks to our apprentices who showed great interest and asked good questions.

And yes – Sterke’s fitters were on the job – company car glimpsed from the top of Oven 87.
